Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 4 cups frozen French fries (shoestring or steak fries)

Protein and Cheese

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 tbsp taco seasoning (chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, salt)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Veggies and Beans

  • 1/4 cup fresh or pickled jalapeños, sliced
  • 1/2 cup black beans (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/2 cup pico de gallo or salsa

Finishing Touches

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • Optional toppings: guacamole or sliced avocado, olives, diced tomatoes, fresh cilantro, hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fries: Bake or fry the frozen French fries according to the package instructions until golden and crispy, ensuring a sturdy base for the toppings.
  2. Cook the Seasoned Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef. Add taco seasoning and a splash of water, then simmer until fully cooked and flavors meld, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Assemble the Loaded Nacho Fries: Spread the cooked fries on a large oven-safe platter. Evenly distribute the seasoned ground beef, black beans (if using), and sliced jalapeños over the fries. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top.
  4. Melt the Cheese: Place the platter in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 5 to 7 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and melted.
  5. Add Fresh Toppings: Remove from oven and top with pico de gallo or salsa, dollops of sour cream, and chopped green onions. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Choose thicker fries like steak fries for better hold and less sogginess.
  • Season the ground beef well for depth of flavor.
  • Layer cheese on top of fries and beef to help bind the toppings.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the crispy and gooey textures.
  • Try additional toppings like olives, diced tomatoes, or fresh cilantro for extra flavor.
  • For reheating, use an oven or toaster oven to keep fries crispy; avoid microwave reheating.
