Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 3 to 4 lbs Pork Shoulder (or Boston Butt), trimmed of excess fat
  • 1 large Onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 cup Barbecue Sauce (your favorite)
  • 2 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 2 tsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • 6 Burger Buns, soft and sturdy

Optional Toppings

  • Coleslaw
  • Pickles

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pork: Trim any excessive fat from the pork shoulder. Rub the meat evenly with smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and brown sugar to create a flavorful crust that will develop during cooking.
  2. Layer in the Slow Cooker: Place sliced onions and minced garlic at the bottom of the slow cooker. Add the seasoned pork on top. Pour in the barbecue sauce and apple cider vinegar to balance the richness with a tangy punch.
  3. Cook Low and Slow: Cover and cook on low heat for 8 to 10 hours until the pork is fall-apart tender and easy to shred with forks.
  4. Shred the Pork: Remove the pork from the slow cooker onto a plate or cutting board. Shred it finely using two forks, then mix the shredded pork back into the juices in the slow cooker to absorb all the saucy flavor.
  5. Assemble the Sandwiches: Pile the pulled pork onto warm burger buns. Top with coleslaw or pickles if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy the flavorful, tender sandwiches.

Notes

  • Choose pork shoulder or Boston butt for the best tenderness and juiciness.
  • Let the shredded pork rest in the sauce for 10-15 minutes off heat to absorb maximum flavor.
  • Wrap buns in aluminum foil to keep them warm and soft if prepping ahead.
  • Adjust barbecue sauce to your preferred sweetness or heat before adding.
  • Use low heat in the slow cooker for optimal tenderness; avoid high heat unless short on time.
