Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk (around 110°F)
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (plus 1 tsp for yeast activation)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Filling

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans

Maple Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp pure maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Warm the milk to around 110°F to activate the yeast. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, active dry yeast, and 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. Add all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt. Mix until dough begins to form. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
  2. Make the Filling: In a bowl, mix softened butter, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and chopped pecans until well combined. This mixture will infuse the buns with warm, nutty sweetness.
  3. Assemble the Cinnamon Buns: Once dough has doubled, punch it down and roll it into a 12×16-inch rectangle. Spread the cinnamon-pecan filling evenly over the dough. Starting from one long edge, roll tightly into a log. Cut into 12 equal slices and arrange cut-side up in a greased baking dish, leaving space for expansion. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  4. Bake to Golden Perfection: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake buns for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and fragrant. Watch closely to prevent nuts from burning and ensure a fluffy interior with a nicely browned crust.
  5. Drizzle with Maple Glaze: Mix powdered sugar and pure maple syrup until smooth. Drizzle generously over warm buns right after baking so the glaze melts into the crevices and coats pecans, enhancing every bite.

Notes

  • Use fresh yeast and proof it properly for a great rise.
  • Add flour gradually when kneading to keep dough soft and airy.
  • Spread filling evenly for consistent flavor in every bun.
  • Cut buns about 1 to 1.5 inches thick for even baking and moist texture.
  • Glaze while buns are warm to maximize gooeyness.
