Ingredients

Cheese

  • Goat Cheese Rounds, about 1 inch thick slices

Coating

  • All-Purpose Flour, lightly seasoned with salt and pepper
  • Eggs, beaten
  • Bread Crumbs mixed with freshly chopped fresh thyme leaves

For Frying and Serving

  • Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil, for frying
  • Honey, for drizzling
  • Fresh Thyme sprigs, for garnish
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cheese: Slice the goat cheese into evenly sized rounds about 1 inch thick. Chill them in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes to firm up, which helps prevent melting during frying.
  2. Set Up the Coating Station: Arrange three shallow bowls: one with all-purpose flour seasoned with salt and pepper; one with beaten eggs; and one with bread crumbs mixed with freshly chopped thyme leaves to infuse herbal flavor.
  3. Coat the Cheese Rounds: Dredge each chilled goat cheese round in the flour, ensuring full coverage. Dip into the beaten egg wash, then coat generously with the thyme-infused breadcrumbs. For extra crunch, repeat dipping into egg and breadcrumbs for a double coating.
  4. Fry Until Golden: Heat olive or vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Carefully add the coated cheese rounds and fry about 2 minutes per side until a deep golden crust forms. Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain oil temperature and crispiness.
  5. Drain and Add Honey: Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried cheese bites to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. While still warm, drizzle with fresh honey and sprinkle with extra thyme for a flavorful finish.

Notes

  • Chill the cheese before frying to help it hold its shape and prevent melting.
  • Use fresh thyme for vibrant flavor; dried thyme can be substituted at half the amount.
  • Maintain oil temperature between 350-375°F for perfect crispiness.
  • Double coating is optional but provides extra crunch and sturdiness.
  • Drain well on paper towels to keep bites crispy.
